HK & Malacca

i'd just came back from 2 consecutive trips - Hong Kong & Malacca - which lasted from 7th to 16th June. It was tiring! (and i thought holidays were supposed to recharge me.. ??) Probably because of the short sleeping hours during the trip, and the walking most of the time (except on the necessary bus/ MTR/ taxi rides in HK, but that's about it) in HK and Malacca, hence the worn-out sandals & aching feet!!

Hong Kong (7th - 14th June)

Day 1:
Me & Sun arrived by a delayed Jetstar flight at night in Lantau Island. Lucky for us, cos there were heavy rains & a mad-rush for the Airport Express trains earlier in the day.. night shopping at Ladies Street in Kowloon til midnight.

Day 2:
Full day at Macau! Ferry tic (2-way) was darn expensive at HK300. Absolutely love the portuguese egg-tarts, yu-dan (curry fish-balls), & papaya-milk there. Visited the Senado Sq, Ruins of St. Paul's, St. Dominic's Church, The Venetian Casino/Hotel on foot & by bus.. it's crazy the venetian casino/hotel was so extravagantly built & decorated.. too much $$$ to spare?

Day 3:
Hk Island - The Peak, SOHO, HK Park, Causeway Bay
Took the red Tram up to the Peak, for the picturesque view over the entire HK island, and to see the celebrities (including my fav Einstein) at Madam Tussards museum (too bad they were all in wax =P). Walked around the Central area, took their famous long escalator at Mid-Levels (Ban Shan), visited Li-Yuen street stalls, popped into HK Park's free Aviary, and took a bus to Causeway Bay's shopping district.

Day 4:
Hk Island - Ocean Park & Stanley Market
It was hot at Ocean Park! 6 hrs of sun on my already tanned skin.. arghh. Did not try many of the thrill rides but had a great & educational tour at the shark/ jellyfish aquariums. We discovered at Stanley that a Mac meal was surprisingly cheaper than many cha-chan-teng food!

Day 5:
New Territories - Wong Tai Sin temple, Nan-Lian-Yuan-Chi garden, Kowloon Walled City Park
Tsim Tsa Tsui - Space Museum
I must say that their space museum was sooooo good! singapore should have one of these museums too! Many interactive exhibits and interesting stuff on astronomy. =) i like!!

Day 6:
Lanma Island
On the suggestion of Madoka-san, we went to this quiet outlying island southwest of HK Island by a 30-min ferry. Can even tap your Octopus card on the ferry! We took the 3 hr walking trail from the northern tip to the mid-section of Lanma Island. Passed by 2 beaches, one look-out, and lots of greenery along the way. Sun-burnt too! Had a not-that-fantastic seafood dinner at Lanma. Price of HK99 for one includes abalone/scallop, steamed promfet, prawns & veggie.

Day 7:
It was raining so we decided to venture to TST's History Museum and Science Museum. we had to give Lantau Island a miss due to the bad road conditions there since Sat. For an admission of just HK10 bucks, History Museum was such a great place to visit. We particularly liked the life-sized mock-ups of certain exhibits and the attention to details. Science Museum was just next door, but i feel it's catered more for the kids. I prefer our own Science Centre though.. =P

Malacca (14th - 16th June)

Zoomed off on a 707 coach with my bf to Malacca, 4 hrs after i returned from HK! Visited the heart of Malacca on foot: A' Famosa, St. Paul's Church, The Dutch Graveyard, Christ Church, St. Francis Xavier's Church and Jonker Street (locally knowned as Jalan Hang Jebat). There were lots of food to eat (my fav was Assam Laksa -- hot & spicy!) and ah-hem, smelly drains almost everywhere. I definitely prefer singapore's cleaner streets and traffic.
